I’VE HELPED RATEPAYERS GET OUTCOMES ON EVERYTHING FROM SUPPORTING THEM IN THE DEVELOPMENT PROCESS, GETTING DANGEROUS FOOTPATHS AND ROADS REPAIRED, HELPING THEM TO APPEAL PARKING FINES THEY BELIEVE HAVE BEEN WRONGLY ISSUED TO RESOLVING NEIGHBOURHOOD DISPUTES

Here are a few…

1. I’ve voted consistently over the past two terms of Council to keep rates down by freezing the rate in the dollar

2. I’ve fought hard and have secured funding for North Adelaide’s development and infrastructure … including the Stage 1 Jeffcott Street upgrade (Stage 2 has been shelved by the Team Adelaide Council) and masterplans for O’Connell Street and Melbourne Street (detailed plans have been shelved by the Team Adelaide Council until 2025 with any funding to implement those plans not scheduled until 2028).

3. I secured with Anne Moran’s support a scheme whereby local residents could purchase a permit to park on-street without fear of getting a parking ticket. A few years ago at the instigation of Councillor Mary Couros the Team Adelaide faction killed off the scheme for no good reason. It will be re-instated if Team Adelaide loses its majority control of Council.

4. I won Council’s support to instal Automatic External Defibrillators at 27 locations across the City and North Adelaide, including at Wellington Square, Tyne Street and Melbourne Street. I’ll be doing all I can to have more installed to try to do something to help the lower the number of deaths in Australia from sudden cardiac arrest.

5. I’ve fought for better access to our City for pedestrians, cyclists, users of public transport and motorists. With your help, we stopped a Team Adelaide bid to reduce or get rid of the valuable community service provided by the City Connector Bus. I also tried to hold the Council to a promise to build an East West bikeway which was funded by the State Government but abandoned by Sandy Verschoor’s Team Adelaide. I tried but failed to overcome the motion of Councillor Couros and her Team Adelaide faction to formalise the use of Adelaide Oval 2 as a car park, with Pennington and Creswell Gardens reclassified as event spaces. But the good news is the North/South bikeway will be delivered … eventually …..

6. I’ve battled along with everyone else who loves our Park Lands to protect them from commercial development. We defeated the bid of the Crows to build retail and office accommodation on Park 2, I remain opposed to the State Government building a commercial car park next to new Womens and Childrens Hospital on park 27, I remain opposed to the Botanic High expansion onto Park Lands and we have saved Helen Mayo Park on Park 27 from a basketball stadium. The next Park Lands issue will be where will the new State Government Aquatic Centre be located? I have remained and will continue to remain vigilant in the protection of our Park Lands for the sake of our children’s children

7. I am dedicated to the free flow of information to ratepayers. The City of Adelaide has been called The Chamber of Secrets for its tendency to cloak so many decisions in confidentiality. Very rarely, truly commercial in confidence information needs to be discussed with the doors closed. But this Council has, in my view, clothed too many decisions in confidentiality .. sometimes to shut down debate on controversial issues and on some occasions to avoid embarrassment. I have voted against every single order for confidentiality unless there’s been a very good reason for the secrecy. It is not the way your Council should conduct business and I will continue to argue for your right to know what your Council is up to.

8. Support for our festivals and events is vital for our businesses and for our reputation as the festival capital of Australia. I have supported our main festivals, particularly arguing for three year and indexed funding wherever possible. I supported the 72 hour closure of Bartels Road for the Harvest Festival to provide safety for those music lovers attending the event. Team Adelaide did not and the State government stepped in to overrule the faction. For those of us in North Adelaide who endure repeated road closures and/or restrictions because of events at the Tennis Centre and the Adelaide Oval, it seems truculent to oppose such a short lived inconvenience.
